    In addition to his acting, Ryan was born and raised in California, where he worked as an actor, director, musician, and acting teacher. For four years, he was the Education Director of the Ojai Shakespeare Festival, directed several of their productions, and served one season as the festival's Artistic Director. Ryan also was an adjunct professor in The Opera Institute at California State University Long Beach, where he taught acting classes to opera singers and directed their Fall operas. He taught master acting classes for the Young Artists Program at the Portland Opera.

    Ryan moved to New York City in 2005 where he is currently the Artistic Director of FutureStage a theatre education program at LEAP that teaches playwriting to students who then have their original works to a performance at an Off-Broadway theatre. He has been on-staff at Stagedoor Manor for two years where he directed several stage productions and taught Master Acting, Shakespeare, Auditioning, Improvisation, and Directing. In California, Ryan taught at The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, classes and workshops in Shakespeare, scene & monologue study, and character development.
