Lauretta Ali is an author, actress and performance artist residing in Duluth, GA. She performed with her late husband Yusef Ali who played the Congas and Percussion under the logo Poetry & Skins. They also Co-Hosted, Newark NJ, a weekly cable talk show interviewing artists of all genres, rising entrepreneurs and others. Their shows are now aired on Atlanta’s PeopleTV, channels 19 and 25, Tuesdays from 1:30 to 2:00PM. Lauretta was a resident writer for Detour_Memphis an online magazine and a book reviewer for Armchairinterviews.com. Her first published book is one of poetry based upon her life as a single parent in the 1960’s, Songs to a Manchild, written for her son who is now thirty-eight years old.
Lauretta has performed in many plays and has been in a member of many Poetry Ensembles and theatrical companies. She studied acting techniques at the Theatre School in Georgetown, Washington D.C.; and improvisation with Norman Charles in New York. She has taken Commercial, Auditioning/Marketing and TV Sitcom classes with Robert Collier, also in New York. She has appeared in films and television commercials. She is currently co-starring in 2 plays with Spring openings in Atlanta, Georgia. She also co-hosted with other writers, a poetry workshop, for teens living in transitional housing. Her non-fiction paperback novel, “Survival of the Fittest…One Child’s Life in the Foster Care System” is published by Neshee Publication. She now has her own entertainment production company Lali Productions LLC which has produced a play The Delinquent Society and a documentary film Bullying: A Shameful Dilemma.
