Keva is an exciting new artist that is poised to have a significant voice in today’s music industry. This up and coming artist, based out of New York, has the remarkable ability to blend soulful vocals with authentic lyrics, yielding a sound that is distinctly her own. This sound proves the wisdom of a young woman way beyond her years. Just like her personality, her voice is warm, soothing and true. Not only is her voice a sound to reckon with, her writing is part of what makes her such a significant talent. “I used to try to follow a formula when writing and arranging songs, but now, I just follow my heart,” Keva admits.
Keva has been exposed to R&B since before she could remember by way of her father’s interest music. When children her age were watching MTV, Keva was studying the likes of The Marvelettes, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye. Till this day, she credits her singing styles and influences to Gladys Knight, Mary Wells, Whitney Houston and Faith Evans.
Keva has offered vocals to notable artists from diamond selling artist Shaggy to Salt (from Salt-n-Pepa) where she sang chorus and backgrounds. She has also performed at concerts opening up for artists from Beenie Man to Jadakiss. She is also excited about pursuing acting. Her most recent project is an off-Broadway production of Dreamgirls where she is playing the role of Deena Jones.
Keva believes that it is not the amount of records sold that makes a singer influential; it is the singer’s ability to touch someone’s soul through song. “I am very sensitive about my singing. I am not one of these girls that woke up yesterday and decided she wanted to be a singer because the lifestyle looks good on television” Keva says. If you ask Keva to describe her music in one word, she would tell you “Honest”.
