    Alexander D Carney was born and raised in New York City.  A graduate of New York's High School of the Performing Arts, Alex appeared in the movie FAME, directed by Alan Parker about Performing Arts.  As an actor, he appeared off-Broadway with the late Geraldine Page and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham in The Madwoman of Chaillot, directed by Stephen Porter at Mirror Repertory.  Alex worked on the Broadway companies of Showboat, Smokey Joe's Cafe and Disney's Beauty and the Beast as well as many off-Broadway shows, both musical and legitimate.  Alex spent the past summer at Shakespeare and Company helping to produce all of the company's outdoor programming.  Alex has directed productions of Hamlet and The Chronicle History of Henry V for Raised Spirits Theatre Company, for which he serves as Artistic Director.  His most recent directing endeavor was a production of A Tuna Christmas for Court Square Theater in Harrisonburg, VA.  As a playwright, his plays include HENSLOWE!, a one man show about the life and times of Phillip Henslowe, Elizabethan theatrical entrepreneur. Alex holds a B.A. from SUNY/Empire State College as well as both an MLitt. in Elizabethan and Renaissance Literature in Performance and an MFA in Directing from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia.  He is a member of both Actors Equity Association (AEA) and the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local #1 (I.A.T.S.E #1).
