Shortly after I was born in the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland, my parents accepted a posting with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. As a result, my earliest memories are of the stark muskeg of the Yukon Delta of Alaska. I recall one-room huts, potlatches, winters with almost no sunlight, and summers with little darkness with which to sleep.

Returning to the lower 48 at the age of five was a bit of culture shock. I was accustomed to the way things worked in an Eskimo village. Though we returned to a small town in West Virginia, I still had a lot to learn about how society worked in this new and exciting area.

From small-town West Virginia I moved to increasingly more populous areas. Central Kentucky, Boston, Los Angeles—all these places I have called home over the years. I've been exposed to a broad swath of American culture. I've been in the position of privileged majority and outcast minority. I've learned how to live in every American culture within which I've found myself.

Through the years I have also amassed a significant skill set by dabbling in a number of hobbies. Amongst them is tabletop roleplaying, in which I have become any number of characters and character types. Music has long been a passion of mine. I took up cycling and have ridden as much as 140 miles in a single day.
