Karla Pollard grew up on the coast of North Carolina. After attending college, Karla decided to enroll in acting classes at the Film Actors Studio in Charlotte. "I felt like the timing was right. I learned from the best coach and have met many wonderful actors," said Karla.

Her first start was in theatre where she was cast as Mandy in a supporting role in Unlikely Hero. She followed that up with a lead role in Heartening of the Artistries at Brevard Little Theatre.... More Karla's first lead role for film was Bad by Design, which was a film created for the 48 hour film project. Her next lead role was in Beyond Return, a feature that was filmed by students at Haywood Community College. "I learned a lot on that set. The whole experience was an eye opener and made me realize that this is what I truly love to do," said Karla.

Karla wants to be a diverse actress and has had the opportunity to play older and younger characters. Her first film as a mother was in White Lies directed by Jessica Dito. Karla says "she had the opportunity to challenge herself by taking on a role of parenting a little girl."

"When I look for roles I look for roles that are different from the last role I played. I don't want to be stereotyped in a particular role. I love being able to think outside of the box," admits Karla. Since White Lies Karla has been cast in several more independent and student films.

Her latest role is in Absence with Pictures. Karla plays Kate a young woman whose fiancé is fighting overseas in the war against Iraq. "It was a tough role for me emotionally and physically. Now, I can really relate to women whose loved ones are at war," said Karla.
